What is Personal Care?

Personal care is hands-on, in-home assistance with the activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility. It is provided by trained caregivers who prioritize dignity, comfort, and respect in every interaction.

We thoughtfully match caregivers based on personality and preferences, not just availability, so personal care feels natural, comfortable, and consistent rather than clinical.

Why Dignified Daily Support Matters

Being able to bathe, dress, and move through your day the way you want to is about more than routine. It’s about feeling like yourself. When those tasks become difficult, the emotional weight can be just as heavy as the physical challenge. A trained caregiver who approaches personal care with patience and respect helps protect something that matters deeply: a person’s sense of dignity and independence.

According to AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving, 65% of family caregivers help with tasks like bathing and dressing, often while managing their own health and responsibilities. Professional support makes that care sustainable for everyone.

Frequently Asked Questions about Personal Care

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between personal care and companionship care?

Companionship care focuses on social connection and light household support. Personal care involves hands-on physical assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility. Many clients receive both types of support as part of a combined care plan.

Yes. All Fedelta caregivers providing personal care are trained and experienced in supporting individuals with daily living activities. They understand the importance of maintaining dignity and comfort, and they approach every interaction with patience and respect.

This is a common concern, and our team has experience navigating it thoughtfully. We take time to build trust with new clients, allowing the relationship to develop naturally before introducing more hands-on tasks. We also work with families to understand preferences and communication styles that can make the transition easier.

In most cases, non-medical personal care is not covered by Medicare or standard health insurance plans in Washington or Oregon. Families typically pay privately or through long-term care insurance that includes home care benefits.

In Washington, some individuals may qualify for support through Apple Health (Medicaid), certain long-term care programs, or the WA Cares Fund (beginning benefits in 2026 for eligible residents).

In Oregon, Medicaid and state-supported long-term care programs may assist eligible individuals who meet financial and care requirements.

Coverage depends on care needs, income eligibility, and policy details. We encourage you to review your insurance plan or speak with a local care advisor to understand your options.
